Flicker, Kerin, Kruger & Bissada LLP is pleased to announce that senior associates H. Miles Pedersen and Brittney N. Sturtevant passed the Family Law Specialist exam. This is the first step for applicants seeking their Family Law Specialist certification.
The Family Law Specialist Examination is a day-long exam, which consists of eight short essay questions and 75 multiple-choice questions. A passing result means the attorney has a proficient understanding of the key laws, rules, and procedures applicable to Family Law. Mr. Pedersen and Ms. Sturtevant demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of the Family Law field and are now eligible to file their applications for certification.
The California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization requires attorneys to meet strict standards to be named certified specialists in their field. To achieve their CFLS certifications, Ms. Sturtevant and Mr. Pedersen are required to:
- Pass a written examination on Family Law;
- Complete additional continuing education trainings on Family Law related topics;
- Demonstrate dedication to the field by practicing law continuously for at least five years with more than 25% focused on Family Law;
- Successfully represent clients in a variety of Family Law matters; and
- Present favorable evaluations from both other attorneys and judges familiar with their work.
The State Bar of California will evaluate and approve an attorney’s application for certification. Certified Family Law Specialists are recognized as experts in Family Law, able to provide expert counsel in a wide variety of matters. By beginning the process of becoming Certified Family Law Specialists, Mr. Pedersen and Ms. Sturtevant are demonstrating their commitment to provide exceptional legal services to their clients.
